About Us

Survey Instrument Services Ltd (SIS) was set up in 1973 to provide servicing of surveying equipment for the construction industry, Ordnance Survey and County Councils, and has since expanded into providing a range of electronic equipment and services.

As SIS grew, there was a demand for the supply of surveying equipment and accessories. This led to SIS being appointed as the sole agent for Kern and company of Switzerland, one of the largest and most respected manufacturers of surveying equipment at the time.

This agency continued until 1988, when Wild Leitz & Kern merged. Shortly after this SIS was appointed sole Distributor in Ireland for the Wild/Leitz Geodetic and Photogrammetric range of equipment.

As a result of the experience SIS acquired in data logging, it was appointed in 1986 as sole distributor for the successful Psion product range.

In July of 1992 SIS purchased 4,000 sq.ft. of custom built Premises in Ballymount.

In 1994 Leica Geosystems Ltd acquired the Wild/Leitz agency, and SIS was appointed as its sole Distributor in Ireland. In keeping with its core expertise in the field of measurement, SIS was appointed as sole Distributor in Ireland for the Alcosense™ range of breathalysers in 2007, and of the SureshotGPS™ range of golf distance measurement devices in 2009.

SIS remains one of the largest suppliers of surveying equipment and accessories in Ireland and has an unrivalled Service Department, Leica fully equipped and approved, with factory trained personnel. We have our own in house Software Development and Technical Support Department, which enables us to fully support our product range.

Now in our 37th year in business, SIS will continue to look for Agencies that will compliment our existing range. The team currently consists of 11 people based in our central Dublin offices, and the recruitment of further staff will continue.

• 1973: SIS is created by John Caffrey. Original offices were in Lower Baggot Street.
• 1977: SIS moves office to Rathmines.
• 1978: SIS acquires Kern agency and begins selling surveying equipment and accessories.
• 1986: SIS acquires Psion agency and begins selling the Psion Organiser.
• 1989: Kern acquired by Wild. SIS becomes Wild’s sole Irish agent.
• 1992: SIS moves to Ballymount Cross Industrial Estate.
• 1994: Wild acquired by Leica. SIS becomes Leica's sole Irish agent.
• 1998: SIS celebrates 25 years in business.
• 2000: SIS opens in-house Training Centre.
• 2007: SIS acquires Alcosense™ distributorship in Ireland and begins selling personal breathalysers.
• 2008: SIS celebrates 35 years in business.
• 2009: SIS acquires SureshotGPS™ distributorship in Ireland.
